Workshop Courses
workshopnews.jpg

ALP Photographic Workshop Courses aim to cover the full spectrum of photography from beginners to advanced / professional. There are photographic courses offered by others that cover a wide range of skills in a lengthy course that are absolutely superb.

But ALP Workshop Courses are run differently. We have broken the skill areas down into small one-day workshops that specialize in focusing on learning a particular photographic skill. This allows you to select a Workshop that meets your particular need.

Our courses are run as Workshops, this means that it is not a classroom type learning. We either run workshops in a professional studio or out on location and 80% of your time is taken up actually using your camera under focused tuition. Almost all the workshops have one or more models on hand that you can work with and put your newly leaned skills into practice.

ALP Workshops are generally divided into 3 main groups.
Beginners Workshop: Just getting into photography and need to learn the basics
Advanced Workshop: For the serious amateur. Camera must have interchangeable lenses.
Specialty Workshops: Covers a range of specialized photographic skills

BEGINNERS WORKSHOP
Are you new to photography or do you just want to learn the basics behind taking a decent picture? Then this would be a great workshop to get started.

Photography and all the techno-lingo that goes with it can be a bit overpowering and its frustrating when others make it look so easy.
Well that is what this workshop is all about, we will go through what all thouse buttons and things mean.
We will talk about how to take a decent picture and you will get a chance to try it out on our studio model.
This workshop is great for anyone who wants to understand how to take better pictures.
Its a great workshop for people who need to take pictures for business. (eg: insurance or real estate)
And its good if you know film cameras but need to make the move over to digital.

Dates and times for the Beginners Workshop are planned by Anna and are based on, once she has the required numbers, she will book a workshop that suits everyone.
Workshops are generally run on weekday evenings from 6:00pm till 11:00pm and cost R500

ADVANCED WORKSHOPS
Cameras are basically divided into two sections, fixed lens (the pocket size camera, designed for point-and-shoot photography) and cameras that have interchangeable lenses. In general, interchangeable lens cameras are a lot more sophisticated and cameras develop in sophistication to meet the demanding requirements of professional photographers.

So, generally people with these types of cameras now have the technical ability to work in a studio, have greater control over their cameras and produce images with suitable quality for print reproduction. Although cameras have the ability to take quality pictures, it is quite an art to fully understand how to make this piece of equipment work for you. You have probably heard the saying, "Photographers take great pictures, the camera just helps out".

This is what this Advanced Workshop is all about, taking great pictures. In the advanced course, we presume you understand the basic workings of your camera. That you understand aperture and shutter speed. ISO and white balance. It will also help if you have other lenses to work with and a flash is very useful as we cover flash photography.

The Advanced Workshop is split into two sections, allowing you to select which is most useful.

Studio Workshop - With or without nude modeling
In the studio we run through:
A bit of theory just so that we are all on the same page.
The structural workings of a studio and how you could create one at home.
Ho to set your camera for studio work and why.
Type of lenses best suited for studio work.
Working with people or models in a studio.
Discuss and explain the properties of light and how they effect the end result.
Setting studio light for portraits or glamour head and shoulders You get to shoot a model under these conditions
Changing the lighting setup and shoot full length fashion shots of the models
Working with the model and explain a variety of poses
How to talk with a model.

Artistic Nude photography plays a part of artistic photography and all serious photographers should try this art form at some point. For those interested, seperate workshop will cover creative lighting and artistic nudes with our studio models.
If photographing nudesdoes not interst you, please let Anna know when you make your booking and Anna will book you into a workshop without nudes.

Outdoor or Location workshops
This workshop follows the same format as the studio workshop but now covers:
Understanding outdoor light and how to use it.
Working in bright sunlight
Working with reflectors
Finding the correct backgrounds

Dates and times for the Advanced Workshop are planned by Anna and are based on, once she has the required numbers, she will book a workshop that suits everyone.

masterworkshops.jpgMASTER WORKSHOPS
These workshops are aimed at photographers that are very comfortable with how to use their cameras.

These workshops suite people who now wish to advance to a higher skill level and start to specialise in the different types of photography.

Usually these skills suite photographers who are wanting to shoot this type of photography for clients to generate an income.

For example if you intend offering a service to a client to photograph a building for a fee, but need to expand on your interior and exterior building photographic skills, then the Architecture Workshop would best suite you.

These workshops include photographic topics such as:
Aerial Photography
Architecture
Magazine Cover photography
Graphic Design and Photoshop techniques
Building Exteriors
Fashion and clothing photography
Food Photography
Industrial Photography
Building interior photography
Landscape photography
Nature photography
Fine art nude photography
Portrait photography
Studio pack shot photography
Wildlife Photography

As these are specialised workshops, we will run a workshop for a particular catagory once Anna has received 4 interested photographers.
So if you are interested, please let Anna know so that she can add you the the list.
